My Inspiration
Entrepreneurs are motivated by their inspired vision of what can be. Undeterred by the challenges of “what if”, “how” or “why”, they press on to make their dreams a reality.
When I was considering opening my own law firm, a 1950’s photo of my grandfather’s Topeka, Kansas TV repair business motivated me to act on the dream of being my own boss. That, and my beloved father telling me to “stop thinking, start acting”. My thought was if my grandfather could operate a successful business in Topeka, Kansas during the challenging 1930’s through the 1960’s I could give it a go in these arguably more business-friendly times.
Well, I DID open my own law firm, on January 1, 2011. The days and years since then have been enjoyable. Often challenging, too, but, mostly, satisfying. I enjoy being my own boss, setting my own course, making decisions, choosing who I will work with and what I will do. Still, the challenges are not few and I often laugh at the decision to cut loose and go my own way. Mostly, though, I appreciate my loyal clients. They have taught me well! I have learned a lot, grown so much.
I look at the photo of “Petersen’s TV” every day. It serves as both a reminder of the decision made in 2011 and, as a continuing motivation. If he could, I can!
